Welcome to our Beekeeper Spotlight, where we celebrate the incredible individuals who make our beekeeping community thrive. In these features, we’ll shine a light on a beekeeper who’s doing something special—whether it’s through innovation, kindness, or making a difference in their local or global communities.

For our very first feature, we’re excited to introduce Tara Lynne Groth, a passionate beekeeper and permaculture advocate who’s been transforming her beekeeping journey and supporting others along the way. Read on to learn more about Tara and her inspiring story!

Tara, How Did You Get Into Beekeeping?

Out of curiosity I signed up for an 11-week beekeeping school 1 mile from my house. I had no intention of getting bees until the very last class. Now, 8 years later, all of my hives have descended from the first colony I got that spring.

What’s Your Most Memorable Beekeeping Experience?

My neighbor spotted one of my hives swarming. Fortunately, I was home and the swarm was within reach in a tree. My husband took pictures while I moved the bees into a new box. When I was done I asked him if there were any bees on me—little did I know the entire top of my veil and my back were fully covered in bees!

What Does Beekeeping Mean to You?

To me, beekeeping is magic, stunning, real.

What’s the Best Beekeeping Advice You’ve Received?

Keep your hives healthy. If you don’t have bees, you’re not a beekeeper.

How Can Others Connect With You?

I’d love to connect with fellow beekeepers and anyone interested in sustainability! If you’d like to connect or learn more, here’s where you can find me:
